2021 September Player of the Month Award

Des Moines, IA. – Austin Kujawa of Oakland University, Oakland County, MI, has been named the college NAECAD Player of the Month for September 2021. Eric Dofner of Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs, IA, has been named the high school NAECAD Player of the Month for September 2021 the NAECAD national office announced Monday.

Austin Kujawa is a junior at Oakland University and plays Super Smash Bros. for the Grizzlies. Carl Leone, Head Coach of Esports at Oakland University and NAECAD member states, “Austin is an incredibly dedicated and hardworking student and competitor. In September our most important competitive event was the Smash Ultimate team competing in the Riptide Major. This was the first Smash Major that our team has competed in as a team. Austin had an incredible performance in the event placing 193rd of 1024 total players in Singles 1on1 (top 19%); 33rd of 121 total players in Doubles 2on2 (top 27%); 65th of 376 total players in Squads 3 different characters (top 17%).” Austin is a communications major from Troy, MI.

Eric Dofner plays Rainbow Six: Siege, for the Lynx at Abraham Lincoln High School. Ryan Sinclair, Head Coach of the Abraham Lincoln esports program and NAECAD member states, “When I was hosting tryouts for our inaugural season of esports, I chose Eric not just for his playing ability, but because of his leadership ability. We have some talented underclassmen in the program, but Eric has helped carry the team to their first tournament victories.

This coveted award recognizes individuals for a balance of athletic achievement, sportsmanship and citizenship. While elite performance in the game is important, this award is aimed at recognizing the overall impact the individual has made. Example characteristics include:

Each month, players are nominated by NAECAD members and selected for the award by NAECAD. One Player of the Month will be recognized each month (September – April) at the college and high school levels. The Player of the Month recipients are eligible for nomination of the Player of the Year award. The individual receiving the Player of the Year award will be recognized in person at the NAECAD National Convention each year. The individuals receiving the Player of the Month award will be recognized at the NAECAD National Convention each year. Student athletes nominated for the Player of the Month award will be eligible for nomination of All-American status. Student athletes receiving the most votes will be recognized at both the high school and the university levels for All-American status. The individuals receiving All-American status will be recognized each year at the NAECAD National Convention.
