Des Moines, IA. – Eli Egli of Dickinson State University, Dickinson, ND, has been named the college NAECAD Player of the Month for October 2021. Bowen Zhang of Saint John’s Preparatory School, Collegeville, MN, has been named the high school NAECAD Player of the Month for October 2021 the NAECAD national office announced Monday.
Eli Egli has taken charge as captain of the Valorant team at Dickinson State University this year and has done an outstanding job. Joshua Nichols, Esports Coordinator at Dickinson State University and NAECAD member states about Eli, “Eli is an instrumental part of the team’s success. Not only is he a skilled player but he has a wealth of knowledge of the game and shares his talent with the rest of his teammates. He schedules scrims and takes the time to help the entire esports program.”
Bowen Zhang of Saint John's Prep has led the school’s League of Legends team to an undefeated season so far (10-0) this year. Charles Miller, Head Coach Saint John’s Preparatory School esports program and NAECAD member, has this to say about Bowen, “He plays the Jungler role and is the captain and leader of the team. As a senior, he spends time teaching the younger players how to improve and leads "captain's practice" on the weekends. His KDA is over 13 in games thus far and always plays with a high level of sportsmanship!”
This coveted award recognizes individuals for a balance of athletic achievement, sportsmanship and citizenship. While elite performance in the game is important, this award is aimed at recognizing the overall impact the individual has made. Example characteristics include:
Each month, players are nominated by NAECAD members and selected for the award by NAECAD. One Player of the Month will be recognized each month (September – April) at the college and high school levels. The Player of the Month recipients are eligible for nomination of the Player of the Year award. The individual receiving the Player of the Year award will be recognized in person at the NAECAD National Convention each year. The individuals receiving the Player of the Month award will be recognized at the NAECAD National Convention each year. Student athletes nominated for the Player of the Month award will be eligible for nomination of All-American status. Student athletes receiving the most votes will be recognized at both the high school and the university levels for All American status. The individuals receiving All-American status will be recognized each year at the NAECAD National Convention.
